How does one describe oneself? Self-description, I think, is as limiting as it can be self aggrandizing. Am I tall? What is my race? What is my profession? What are my affiliations? What school did I attend? Am I married? Do I have children? What is my religion? How am I politically inclined? I understand the significance of descriptions. They are symbols of legitimacy and tools by which we judge credibility. They fit neatly our four dimensional world, and satisfy our need to classify and categorize. I suppose that we derive some sense of security from this, as we believe that we are better able to filter communication from the source based on our perception of who the source is. Maybe this is a cop-out on my part, but I know that I am constantly changing, constantly evolving, and that descriptions--as useful as we think they may be--fail to reveal who we truly are. As we journey through this universe of language and communication, I hope that you more clearly discover who I am through our exchange in this medium. This is my challenge to you.
